This edematous and bright red appearance of the external ear with a bit of a bluish suffusion to it is classic presentation for the lupus pernio type of sarcoid. The nose is often involved in a similar process. X-rays of the hands often show osteolytic lesions in the bones of the phalanges and metacarpals.
