These lesions are sharply demarcated, purplish or brown in color with atrophic centers. There is often some yellow or orangish color in the center of these lesions. The lesions occur singularly or in multiples over the pretibial areas, although other areas can be involved. Telangiectasia vessels often courses over the surface of the lesions particularly in the clearing centers.
The condition is often found in patients with diabetes. In the nondiabetic, we refer to it as Mischner's granulomatosis, at least until diabetes develops. Large areas can be involved, significant ulceration in the lesions can occur leading to considerable disability. Treatment can be effective if treatment is initiated early.
