Malignant Melanoma-Amelanotic Image 58Return to Index

This is a photo of a large, polypoid, dusky red, amelanotic melanoma. Although it closely resembles a pyogenic granuloma, it is too large and not moist enough for that diagnosis. The malignant melanoma is a very serious and aggressive form of skin cancer. It is responsible for approximately eight thousand deaths a year and appears as an irregularly shaped area of uneven coloring.
