Multiple melanomas are noted in 8-12% of the people who develop a primary melanoma although I think it is unusual to have more than one melanoma at the same time. This also exhibits the presence of a densely pigmented nodular melanoma sitting right next to an amelanotic melanoma on the breast of a young woman. Inspecting the entire cutaneous surface at the time of an office visit is certainly something to be commended. You must acknowledge a great reluctance on the part of many people to remove their clothes for such inspections. The malignant melanoma is a very serious and aggressive form of skin cancer. It is responsible for approximately eight thousand deaths a year and appears as an irregularly shaped area of uneven coloring.
