This is a fairly large pigmented lesion with irregular borders and variegation of color. Evidence of regression is seen in the right lower quadrant. There is a clearing zone almost completely around the lesion of varying widths. The malignant melanoma is a very serious and aggressive form of skin cancer. It is responsible for approximately eight thousand deaths a year and appears as an irregularly shaped area of uneven coloring.
